Chunkurchak Gorge — Golubinyy Waterfall

The Golubinyy (Pigeon) Waterfall in the Chunkurchak Gorge, located on a small stream — a left tributary of the Chunkurchak River — is probably the most easily accessible waterfall for residents and visitors of Bishkek. First, it is located very close to the city, and second, the access road is quite simple (and after the renovation of the road to the ski base is completed, it will likely become even easier). Another attraction of this place is the suspension (“sky”) bridge offering breathtaking views. The opposite (right) bank of the stream is also interesting for a walk — a steep cliff separating the valleys of Chunkurchak and its tributary.

Leave the city following the road toward the Alamedin Gorge. In Koy-Tash, turn right toward Arashan, and after crossing the bridge over the Alamedin River, turn left in the direction of the Chunkurchak ski base. As of 2025, the road to Chunkurchak is actively being renovated, and there is hope that by the 2026 season this section will be fully paved. In the village of Tatyr, it is important not to miss a small and rather inconspicuous right turn onto a dirt road leading to a small bridge across the Chunkurchak River. The road condition here is not great, but you only need to drive a very short distance: after a brief ascent and a sharp right turn, look for a place to park. You can also park below, immediately after the bridge — in this case, you will approach the waterfall from below.

Crossing the suspension bridge can be a serious challenge for people who are afraid of heights. The bridge is completely safe and has high railings, but if height itself makes you uncomfortable, make sure to assess your limits. If you plan to have a snack, the best spots are located on the cliff beyond the bridge — there are fewer people there and plenty of places with stunning views of the valley.

There are two ways to approach the waterfall, which can be explored separately or combined into a short loop route. If you parked below, you can reach the waterfall from underneath by following a trail along the stream. From here, specially built stairways lead upward, although they are not particularly convenient. Once at the top, you can cross the suspension bridge to the opposite bank. After the bridge, walk left a little farther along the cliff to enjoy a spectacular panorama of two valleys merging into one right before your eyes. After returning to the left bank, you can descend to the lower parking area via the road. If you parked at the upper parking area, you can go down to the waterfall using the same stairs and return to your car via the road.
