The village of Issyk-Ata is located in the valley of the river of the same name, about an hour and a half’s drive from Bishkek. The valley is best known for its hot springs; a sanatorium located in the village has recently undergone a full-scale renovation. In addition, the Issyk-Ata river valley is notable for its waterfalls. The most famous waterfall is located on the right (eastern) bank of the river, on a small tributary, about an hour’s walk from the village. To be precise, only the lower tier of a large cascade is accessible, while its true scale can really be appreciated only from above, for example in aerial photography. Another waterfall can be found on the opposite, western bank of the Issyk-Ata, also on a small tributary. It is much less known, although it is hardly inferior to the first one. The Issyk-Ata valley stretches many kilometers deep into the mountains, reaching two small lakes located at an altitude of about 3,100 meters.
